GENEVA – The Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights defenders, Ms. Margaret Sekaggya, will visit Honduras from 7 to 14 February 2012.

“The purpose of the mission is to evaluate, in an objective and impartial manner, the situation of human rights defenders in Honduras,” Mrs. Sekaggya said. The Special Rapporteur also added that she will seek to “create constructive dialogue with the Government in order to ensure that all human rights defenders can carry out their peaceful activities without fearing for their security.”

The Special Rapporteur is scheduled to meet with Government officials, representatives of the legislative and judicial branches, a broad range of civil society actors, the United Nations and diplomatic delegations.

Promotion Mission of the ACHPR SR on HRDs in CAR

The Special Rapporteur of the African Commission on Human and Peoples Rights on the situation of human rights defenders in Africa, Mrs. Lucy Asuagbor, will undertake a promotion mission from 6 to 16 June 2011 in Central African Republic.

 

18 March 2011 – The Chairperson of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (the African Commission), Honorable Commissioner Reine Alapini-Gansou, will be leading a high level Delegation to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

The objective of the joint promotion mission is two pronged:

· firstly, to promote the African Charter, exchange views, and share experiences with the Government of the DRC, and the major human rights stakeholders in the country on how to enhance the
enjoyment of human rights in the country; and

· secondly, to identify progress and challenges, and follow up on various reports/information before the African Commission regarding the human rights situation in the DRC. (more…)

 

26 January 2011, Banjul, The Gambia – The Secretariat of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights wishes to inform its publics that at the invitation of the Government of the Republic of Cameroon, the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (the African Commission) will undertake a Human Rights Defenders Mission to the Republic of Cameroon from 1 to 7 February 2011.

The Mission, which is part of the African Commission’s promotion mandate, is being undertaken in accordance with Article 45(1) of the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights, with the objective of engaging with relevant stakeholders to among other things, exchange views on ways and means of enhancing the enjoyment of human rights in the country.
